Sarah usually sleeps so well and wakes up so cheerfully. Yesterday it was not so. By 8 a.m. (after 3 1/2 hours of crying and becoming inconsolable) I pulled out my arsenal of remedies I had "heard" about and called around for some more helpful advice. (Thanks Jennie for the suppository idea!) The remedies kicked in around 10 a.m. when my sweet little girl slept for an hour. However, when Sarah woke up from her morning nap she was less than happy again. Beside myself for what to do, I caved and called the doctor's office. I told them Sarah was not doing well and scheduled an appointment for 2:45 that afternoon. (I think had Sarah not been sick the whole weekend I wouldn't have gone to such measures, but I just wanted to be sure I was doing what was best for her. And let's be honest - I'm a first-time mommy. In retrospect, I think the problem was from giving Sarah too much of the "BRAT" diet while she was sick. It did stop her diarrhea and vomiting but it also made her too constipated. I will need to find a happy balance in the future.)
So back to the story - Sarah must have heard me make the call because almost immediately after I talked with her doctor's office she started smiling and playing. (And the suppository kicked in!) I couldn't believe how contrastingly better she was. In fact, by 2 p.m. I decided to put her down for a nap and called to cancel her appointment. She slept until 5:15 - I woke her up so she would hopefully sleep again that night. She has been doing GREAT ever since.
So great that we ventured out to the grocery store for our weekly shopping outing. I forgot how busy it gets at the store during Thanksgiving week. Yikes. I ended up with a less-than-desirable cart in an overcrowded grocery store. We gathered the items we needed and Sarah charmed all the ladies and gents along our way.
By the time we went to pick up daddy from work I was not thinking of making dinner anymore and called in our favorite order of a pan crust pizza with creamy garlic sauce and roasted chicken. It was exactly what my doctor would have ordered for me - a stress free evening.

Sarah loved eating our big people food. Here's a picture of her eating the crust with Daddy. So cute.

Sarah was in bed without a fuss at 8 p.m. (a little later than I like, but with the long nap it was perfect). She slept fairly well and I can hear her waking up now... I love the sounds of her sweet, happy babbles in the morning.
Once she gets over one you can give her small amounts of honey, it works as a laxative but isn't safe until later because of the botulism. You can add that to your list for the future.I'm glad calling the Dr. worked so well :) and you get smart mommy points for NOT waking her for the appointment!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your day got much better! I love the pictures of Sarah with the "big people" food! These girls are growing up so so fast!
ReplyDeleteOh hooray! I was wondering how "it all came out in the end." Okay, that was naughty.
