What are your Easter Traditions?

Now that Sarah is a year old Roger and I are thinking more about traditions we would like to keep as a family. My sister Emily called the other day asking what our Easter Traditions were. hmmm... well... not quite sure.

Here's what we ended up doing: We filled a few plastic eggs with animal cookies, fruit snacks and goldfish crackers from the Easter Bunny for Sarah. (I really like Heidi's idea of having Easter Bunny Day on Saturday. My older sister does it this way with her kiddies as well. I like the idea of separating the bunny from Easter. Sarah LOVED finding the eggs and I LOVED watching her face as she discovered they had treats inside! Today, I opened one for her and inside were fruit snacks. Her face lit up as she said Wwwwooooooowwww! So cute.

We recently received a really neat Easter Book - Jesus Christ and the World of the New Testament - from its author Richard Holzapfel. I love Valinda's FHE idea as well - we'll shoot for doing that one next year. We also had a few friends over to dinner for Easter Sunday and that was super nice.

Egg decorating is a typical tradition that I've done in a variety of ways - my grandmother would dye the eggs wrapped in leaves (making a yellow/green unique pattern effect). A couple of years ago the Fisher Family introduced us to the tie-dye version Natalie had seen from Martha Stewart. This year brought another unique experience. We decorated Easter Eggs this year with Mary and Brandon. They bought this super crazy kit from Wal-greens. Not sure of the designers name, but crazy all the same. I thought egg dying would be a 15-20 minute activity TOPS. I mean - how long does it take to decorate 11 eggs? Who knew it would take four people 3 HOURS! Check out these super intense Easter Eggs.

And on my walk this week, I talked with Lisa P. about her traditions. She said witnessed her first Peep-jousting contest this weekend. I found similar ones on YouTube. Check this out!

Well, that's all for traditions this year. Let me know if you have any others that we can try out.

  1. Super cute eggs. The "designer" is Lisa Frank. Having 3 girls it's a requirement to know these things! I hope Sarah will enjoy the FHE one of these years. George still isn't sure what it's all about but she does like it when she gets a match!

  2. How fun!
I love the idea of separating the bunny from Easter.
I also love Sarah's hair in the picture with the orange egg!!

  3. There is a tradition in my husband's family of having "egg wars". Everyone gets one hard-boiled egg to compete with, and on the count of three you pair up and knock them together. Almost always, one egg will break and one will be intact. The winner goes on to the next round until an egg war champion is declared!
I made it to the second round this year. : )

Happy (late but heartfelt!) Easter to you and your beautiful family!

  4. We like doing the Easter bunny on Saturday too:) I seems like you can really enjoy the blessings of spring and be thankful for all the "pagan" traditions. Then on Sunday you can completely focus on the Savior. I love Easter and I am so glad to see your beautiful family!!!

  5. Wow we just dunk our eggs in a bunch of different colors until they are roughly the color of...several unpleasant things.
As for traditions, we buy a nice (expensive)book about Jesus every Christmas and Easter so that we have a pretty good collection that our kids love!
