As promised, here's the story. ***WARNING, It's pretty long***
When Roger and I were engaged I was racking my brain deciding on a wedding gift for my husband to be. Somehow I thought of getting him a love sac - you know something for us to cuddle on ... kinda like 2 birds in a nest. We had seen them in the recent home show and both loved them. I even went so far as to nonchalantly asking him what size and color he would want if he had one. Rog said he would want to get the biggest one they had - the SUPER SAC. (In his defense, Rog had no idea I was planning on getting one right then. He thought it would be something we would get many years in the future.) I not knowing what apartment living would be like in San Francisco ordered the sac. We enjoyed it for three months in the spacious three-bedroom we lived in while in St. George. However, when we brought it out to San Francisco it got a little tricky. The Love Sac was basically our only living room furniture. We had no end tables, no couch, no other seats. It just sat in a blob in the room. At first we had our weight set in the same room. It definitely looked like a bachelor pad for sure. The next year we swapped our computer and desk (yes, a huge executive desk that Rog inherited from his Dad - why would we have any "small" furniture?) from our bedroom with the weight set. It still wasn't quite a family room feel, but at least it wasn't a weight room anymore. (I've been looking for photos but alas no such luck so far. I'll have to post them when I find them!)
Just before I was pregnant with Sarah we found a love seat on the street that we brought home. I washed the cushions and got a slip cover for it so it wasn't half bad. Our "Love Sac Room" even started to look like a living area.
The week before Sarah came, we purchased another love seat from Roger's office. We swapped out the one we found on the street with this new, modern-looking couch. Little did I know that the new, smaller couch wouldn't be comfortable lounge on - let alone nurse Sarah on.
When we moved down to the building manager's apartment, we inherited a storage room. All the food storage that was making up my bed frame went in there nicely - along with the weight set. (We are fortunate enough to have a large enough space that our storage area dubs as a weight room and project room.) Since we would alleviate some space in our home, Rog promised me a bed and a couch. Can I just say, I LOVE my couch and bed!
I realize this story is getting long - I'm almost done with the sac's history.

In the transition we also acquired a recliner/rocker (no more nursing on the couch if I don't want to!) as well as Sarah's crib & dresser. This filled up her 1/2 bedroom. And recently, we purchased a Clavinova piano that I've wanted for years.
As you can imagine our 1.5 bedroom apartment was pretty full. And with William on the way, we needed to figure out how we were going to fit a toddler bed in the kid's room. The recliner would have to go into the living room - but there was no room for it.
So here's what happened... Rog and I got this hair-brained idea to fit the super sac into our small Alero. Roger was driving to Utah (I flew out with Sarah at the last minute a week early). I couldn't believe it fit. He even got 3 full suitcases in the trunk as well. Here's a few pics of the sac in the car.
Just outside of the car
and with Roger - hoisted and ready to find it's new resting space (at least for a few more years while we are in the city) at Roger's mom's house.
My living room seemed bare when I got back. We moved my cedar chest in it's place and it's amazing how much room our family room has now! We're still planning to bring out the recliner when Will comes, but it's nice to have lots of space right now.

Now before I end, I do want to put a plug in here for the sac. We used it a lot - especially to cuddle and watch movies. Sarah, Roger & I have wrestled and played king of the mountain on it countless times. Sarah LOVED rolling down from the top.
I guess that was a long story for the end result. Let's just say we've had a long history with our sac. Rog is super sad to see it go, but I am doing the happy dance and know that we will be reunited in a better, more spacious place someday. :) I know the kids will LOVE it in a big basement playroom. It might even get to be in the same room as the weight set again. And when we go to visit family, Rog can always visit his sac.
You're posting, yay! I love that sac but can see how it would be problematic. I don't know where I would put it in my house, either!
ReplyDeleteHow can you not love a Love Sac!
ReplyDeleteOh, you haven't died from having a toddler and being pregnant- good to know! I'm happy to hear you're finding space for Will in your teeny tiny apartment, 2 kids will have it bursting at the seams!
ReplyDeleteOh, isn't it nice to send things to the George (St. George--that's what we call it)?! We do the same thing too. We've been trying to get all of Laura's old clothes and baby things there, but we end up flying all the time that it hasn't worked out!
ReplyDeleteYour front room looks fabulous. I don't think I've been over since you got that couch--it looks great!
