Breaking Dawn Book Club

Stephenie Meyer is not the next Jane Austen but her series of vampire romance novels has definitely consumed my last year of reading. I have read other books, but since October 2007 I have been an obsessed 17-year-old and re-read not only my favorite parts in her 4 1/2 book series but the entire series at least twice. My favorite book is Breaking Dawn - maybe it's because I'm pregnant? I don't know. My second favorite would probably be Midnight Sun - which sadly has been put on "hold indefinitely" because "someone" posted the first 12 chapters on the internet - I just wish it was complete! I love hearing not only Edward's point of view, but more of an all-around-perspective from other characters in Twilight. (His mind-reading gift is a pretty fun way to see the whole story - sans Bella - but then we already got her thoughts in Twilight. Reading them together is super fun.)

So I realize not everyone I know is as obsessed as my friend Mary and I about the Twilight Series. (Yes, Mary is the reason I got sooooo hooked. She let me borrow her Twilight book last October and she has been feeding the fire so to speak ever since! Yes, we predicted the entire book of Breaking Dawn from the wedding to the pregnancy, to Jacob imprinting to the Volturi coming and of course the happy ending.)

Since not everyone is as obsessed/excited as I am I had to convince a very skeptical Cyndi (our book club leader) to have September's book club highlight Breaking Dawn. This week's book club was the largest attendance we've had at book club all year!) And It was super fun to get together with other Twilighters to talk about some of my favorite fictional characters. Mary put together a hit trivia game that she should really market. I think the best question she had was, "What matching outfit did Bella and Edward wear when they went to the meadow for the first time?" If you don't know, you should look it up. It's totally hilarious ...

Now that I've had my party I promised Rog that I would put my books away and get on with my life. On Wednesday, I gave a bag with my books in it to Roger to take to his office. I realize my addiction wasn't healthy and now I have no temptation :) I am however looking forward to the Twilight movie this November. We'll see how cooperative William is on November 21st. (I'm due the 22nd ...)

  1. How can a book ever be a bad addiction? I love that you're obsessed. I haven't gotten on the Twilight band wagon yet, but who knows. It took me 5 Harry Potter books before I joined that fray. And wanting your baby to come on time or late for a movie -- that is perhaps the BEST reason I've ever heard.
P.S. Kal had her baby ... 12 days late.

  2. I loved reading the FAQ about Breaking Dawn it made a couple more points make more sense to me. My books sit next to my bed and I get to read them on Sundays, it's a nice break.

  3. I still say that the pregnancy totally remined me of Rosemarys baby and it was really hard for me to like Renesmee for a while after she was born because I kept thinking of her as the spawn of Satan! I just finished the book yesterday and I thought it turned out very good and I am glad they are all together Forever!

  4. So glad that you talked me into reading the book. I am happy to be a part of the conversation. I still can't believe I missed the part about the unbuttone shirt with no sleeves! It was a lot of fun for book club, and you get all of the credit!

  5. Yay for another reason to wear our shirts! :)

P.S. I stole your Prop 8 picture idea for my blog. Hope you don't mind.
