Don't expect Harry Potter. Or BBC's 5-hour version of Pride and Prejudice. It doesn't follow the book THAT closely and the acting is not quite THAT good. Just pretend you are one of 200 "tweeners" watching the hottest guy you can imagine playing Edward on the Big Screen. Then you can scream and swoon in all the right places. Honestly, it was the 200 screaming adolescent girls that made the movie well worth watching. I knew the movie was going to be an entertaining experience when the preview for next year's Harry Potter movie came on and the theater exploded with cheers. Their enthusiasm alone made it definitely worth going on opening night. Awesome.
Oh, I forgot to mention that if you don't have 200 girlfriends going with you from middle school, you can still dress up in your favorite "Bite Me Edward" t-shirt and head down to the local movies with 16 totally awesome married - some with children - girlfriends. We were DYING LAUGHING the entire time. Again, Awesome. (PS Make sure you take a couple of pictures afterward to document the experience.)

I don't know if I could really write a good review at this point. Like the books, I may need to experience it a second time to voice a good opinion. I found that I liked the books more on subsequent readings. Perhaps this will be true of the movie ... Rog wanted to see the movie, well he did until I said the acting - and the storyline in general - were rigid. Oh and don't forget COMPLETELY CHEESY. (But so were the books. Reading the lines of some of the scenes out loud to Roger I caught on to that quickly. For some reason when I read the books to myself it didn't seem quite so cheesy...)
I will say that I did like the Spider Monkey Scene. While not technically in the book, I liked having them climb trees. That was awesome. (Not technically a spoiler since we saw part of this on a preview ...)
We'll see if New Moon comes to fruition. As Valinda said, they left the door WIDE open on that one.
I'm with you, I'm totally going to have to see it again to decide if I really like it or not. I also agree the fans at 12:01 am were certainly a big part of the fun!! The Harry Potter preview rocked the theater here too. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun. I ended up staying in town with a horrible cold. Sad I missed the party.
ReplyDeleteLizzy saw it for the third time last night! Thursday night 12:01, Friday night and Saturday night!
ReplyDeleteis it sad that i only know half of the women in that photo?
ReplyDeleteI saw it yesterday.
ReplyDeleteBook-to-movie is always tough, ne?
The acting was pretty lame, but I'm glad I saw it. Stephenie's cameo was cool!
Hillary...are you really wearing your jeans again already?! Wow, mama! ;-)
I asked my many students who were the teens in those audiences if it was really worth seeing and they swooned and said "totally" and they are going to see it again and again until they can buy it on DVD.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had fun. I heard there was some comedy in it - that's good.
You look great by the way!
Cheesy is a great way to describe it-but I still loved it! I can't wait to read the books all over again now! :0)
