Big Girl Bed
I wasn't planning to set up Sarah's toddler bed until the summer, but we decided to pull it out today just to have Sarah get used to it in her room. I wasn't expecting much. I figured we could try having her lay down and when she got out of her room a few times we would then stick her in the crib and that would be it for the night. I had a little talk with Sarah after we read books and sang a few songs and let her know she could sleep on the big girl bed tonight. But, if she got out of bed I would put her back in the crib. She immediately got out of bed so I put her in the crib for a visual (and to let her know I meant it.) That said, I still didn't think she would stay in her room once I turned off the light and shut the door. (She knows how to open the door to our room.) Sarah cried for a good 1/2 hour but then it was all quiet. I had Rog check to make sure she hadn't "sneaked" into our room. She hadn't. Now, 2 hours later, we sneaked into her room. She fell asleep ON the bed! OK, I'm not naive enough to think it will be just as "easy" tomorrow night, but hey, I'm SUPER EXCITED! We'll see how naps go tomorrow. I think she's really liking the "big girl" stuff. I figure we have a couple of months before William needs the crib ... here's hoping. Rog can't wait for Sarah to wake up tomorrow, come into our room and tug on the comforter of our bed.

So did she use her new Big Girl Princess Sheets too????
ReplyDeleteAwesome! It really was fairly easy to switch mine to toddler beds, I just put a baby gate up in their doorway which many have informed me is cruel and unusual punishment.
ReplyDeleteGood for you!!! I think I am going to stay with the bars for a while, but Kenyon did really well at my mom's place sleeping in a regular bed. I bet she continues to do great...she's your baby right!?!
ReplyDeleteThat's great! My oldest did fine switching to a big-boy bed; now that he and my other son are sharing a room we do need the baby gate in the door. It is definitely not cruel and unusual! It's the only way to make sure they are safe at night.
