While I was checking my email today, I saw this article on Yahoo. As I read down the list I thought, "Wow! These are most of Sarah's favorite foods."

1. Sarah LOVES Daddy's green monster - which usually includes kale and or spinach.
2. She LOVES vanilla yogurt (I mean, really, who doesn't.)
3. OK she's not a big tomato eater, but she LOVES watermelon, which is a substitute.
4. Again, not really into the hard carrot sticks, but she LOVES sweet potato and pumpkin.
5. I love it when it's blueberry season. It's common for me to put a handful of them on her tray in the morning while I make breakfast. They are usually gone in minutes and she's doing her sign for more. If blueberries are really brain food - she's going to be SUPER smart!
6. Black beans with corn - straight from the cans. Now that's something I can't resist giving her. I feel a little bad sometimes that I'm not cooking, but hey, they say black beans are good for you too!
7. We'll have to work on the nut scene when she gets a few more teeth - maybe some molars. Her daddy always likes to have almonds in the house so I'm thinking that will be one of her favorites too ... whatever Daddy likes, Sarah likes.
8. Oats. It's amazing how Sarah will eat a bowl of cereal, a couple of handfuls of fruit and still be willing to eat Mommy and Daddy's oatmeal. Again, it's one of those Daddy things. I eat oatmeal because Rog likes it, but I definitely don't make it for me when he's gone.
Now lest you think I have the perfect eater - I just tried to give her 8 different things for lunch and she only would take a few bites of a couple of things. No applesauce. No hot dog, a few green beans, a few bites of banana ... you know the drill. Maybe I should stick with the things on this list!
Hill, I have to say I'm glad you added that paragraph at the bottom- or I would have sworn Sarah was the perfect eater! My first really is a great eater- not only eats what I want him to most of the time, but eats very neatly. But my second . . . oh brother! Mister Picky, and a totally messy eater. But hey, we make it work. I hope your second will be just as good with the food as Sarah!
ReplyDeletehey, I didn't see anything messy like mashed potatoes or spaghetti! How are you ever going to get those cute scrapbook pictures of her covered from head to toe in tomato sauce?
ReplyDeleteI have recently discovered that Nathan loves white beans. For some reason if I mix frozen corn, peas & cheese into the white canned beans, he practically shovels them into his mouth. I think he likes the bean-sauce because he won't eat peas by themselves. One thing I never thought of about parenting was trying desperately to balance a child's diet. Whew! It can be difficult.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure that sara not liking hot dogs is the end of the world and I am actually shocked that you had one to give her! But I have also read that it takes 4-7 trys to get a child to eat a new food so keep trying with the banana and the other stuff. I have noticed most kids just dont like the texture of a slimy banana and they usually dont like scrambled eggs either. I still say give her a candybar!
ReplyDeleteThat is so good she is a wonderful eater....Macey was too and Connor is pretty good also, but he has had way more treats than his sister did at the same age!
ReplyDeleteAbbey asks, "Sarah why do you still have a high chair?"
