Bitten!

As you have probably guessed with my countdown for Breaking Dawn, I was pretty excited about the last installment of the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer to come out. So much so that I couldn't possibly wait for Amazon.com to deliver a pre-ordered book (even if it would have come on Monday with my Amazon Prime.) Lucky for me I had at least one other obsessed friend who was just as impatient. Addi accompanied me to the Breaking Dawn midnight release party at Borders on Friday night.

Now, you can't go to one of these type of obsessed parties without the proper attire so Addi and I decided to make T-Shirts. That's right, we made our own iron-on image at 10:30pm before heading out the door. Here's the final product:

When we arrived at Borders in Union Square just after 11 pm it seemed like there was literally 10 people in the store. We went up to the second and third floors and were laughing that we were the only ones "dressed up" for the event that had such few people in attendance. We walked over to an information booth and asked about the wristbands we had heard we needed to have in order to purchase the book. We walked back to the front door and were handed two. The numbers said 120 and 121. Huh? "There are 100 people here?" I asked. "Oh yeah. They are on the 4th floor," the bored employee replied. "Oh," I thought to myself. "I didn't know there was a 4th floor ..."

Addi and I headed up to the mysterious 4th floor and found the 100 people participating in a Twilight Series Trivia game. The prizes were "Bitten by Breaking Dawn" buttons and stickers. The female employee reading the questions had obviously not read the books. It was almost painful hearing her pronunciations of the characters and unfamiliarity of the scenes. I impressed Addi by knowing the answers to all the questions (I did say I was obsessed, right?) even the ones about the early Quileute Chiefs.

After the trivia game - and getting our buttons - we had 20 minutes to wait before they started handing out books. Addi and I found a couple of stepping stools on the second floor to sit on. The clock struck midnight and I was amazed at how quickly the line went as we made it down to the first floor to purchase our copies of Breaking Dawn. Addi bought vampire teeth for us to complete our outfits ... Here we are with our long-awaited books in hand!

I started reading when I got home just before 1 am. I read until almost 5 am and when Sarah woke up at 7:30 I woke up with here (Roger took her into the other room and played with her while I slept - or so he thought). I read for a couple more hours before heading down to the Stake Celebration walking tour. (I promise I will post later about the exhausting week I had with the celebration.) I read off and on in between the celebration events and finally finished the book just after midnight. That's right. I'm done with my first reading. (I'm sure I'll read it again ...)

I am happy to report I had "guessed" several of the elements that came up in the book. Stephenie Meyer did a great job intertwining them and I liked how it all came together. Definitely not disappointing! No worries, I won't post any spoilers here. Feel free to call me when you are done so we can discuss it. :)

  9. You would not believe the over a thousand people at Barnes and Noble here. I should have driven by little professor to see that crowd as well! At least this time (last year I was one of the few adults with over a hundred or so teens and Little Professor) there were a lot of adults as well. Crazy!
